Lesson 8
Lesson 8 Discussion
What was the title of the resource (Podcast or video) you decided to review?
Motivating the unmotivated students
•Provide a two paragraph overview of the information contained in the Podcast/video.
Unmotivated students can cause the whole class to fall behind in the learning process for that classroom. The class will fall behind because the teach will get frustrated at the student they he/she is trying to figure out why that students is getting so far behind. Teachers don’t know what to do if they have a student like this in their classroom. Teacher may start think that it’s their fault for the student not being motivated so then he/she will start to lose their motivation. Teachers may also feel the need to give up on the student which is not a good idea.
•Why did you choose this Podcast/video?
I chose this podcast because I think that motivation is a big key factor in a classroom. When I was in high school, i could start to see the difference in the teaching styles of each of the teachers. Somewhere more motivated to teach than others. To me this made some of the students in my class not feel motivated to do their work. They saw that if the teacher wasn’t motivated to teach then why should be motivated to learn.
•Concerning the information in the Podcast/video - Was anything surprising to you?
Nothing was surprising to me. The students acting up and being very disrespectful is something I have seen before. The teacher who acted so calm had a lot of patience, which is surprising compared to how out of control some students were.
•In your opinion, describe two of three of the most important things you learned from listening to the Podcast/video.
An important thing I learned was to never give up on an unmotivated student. They need support just like students playing sports or something else. Patience is a key to a successful classroom. Not getting aggravated with a student can make the students realize you are different from the other teachers who get angry and tired of the student.
•How could you use the podcast information in YOUR classroom?
I would use this podcast in my classroom. I got some great advice on how to teach unmotivated students. I will have to face these problems in my own classrooms so having learned this information to approach these situations I will know what to do.
Summary:
I really enjoyed being able to pick which podcast to listen to. I really liked this particular one because it gave me some great information on stuff that I didn’t know how to deal with.

Research Analysis:
In my research, I found many ways that teachers motivate their students. Motivation is the key to a great school year. Being able to motivate the students will help them learn better and make them want to learn. Students may have a rough home life but with a teacher’s motivation, it would make the students want to come to school to learn. Students have more than one reason that they are not motivated to learn. It is our job as teachers to make sure that they want to learn and make sure that are motivated to do so. Here is five of the many ways that teachers motivate students: Encourage Students, Get them involved, Offer incentives, Get creative, Draw connection to real life.
Research Summary:
I really enjoyed this research. I gave me some important ways to motivate my student in my future classroom. Teachers don’t realize what impact they have on their students’ lives. But this research was really informative.
