This lesson was mainly our views about prejudice and discrimination. You will see all of my responses to the questions that were asked. Most of the resposes that i gave I strongly believe.
Lesson One
1 How comfortable do you feel with handling issues of race and culture in the classroom? How can you ensure that you are not discriminating against students of a different color or culture in your classroom?
Right now I feel comfortable about handling issues of race and culture. I will not have a problem with discussing race or culture to my students. They need to know that there is nothing wrong with being a different race than their friend. I will do my best to make sure that none of my students are being talked about because of their race or culture. I will not discriminate any of my students because every student has an equal right to learn no matter what race or culture.
2 How would you use the ethnicity and race of your students to teach a lesson in the subject you are planning to teach?
I would research almost everything about my students to make sure that I fully know what pace each student learns. I would include all of my students in my teaching. The students would participate during the lesson so I can see who is where at learning in my class. I’m going to have a positive attitude toward my students so that they know that I am there for them if they ever need to talk to me about anything. I will also look in my students background just so I know what they student is like and where they are coming from. I want all of my students to enjoy learning at the pace that they need.
3 How does one become prejudice? Explain.
I do not think that anybody I born prejudice. I think that it is what your parents teach you and who you hang around that influences your decisions. Whatever you grew up hearing is most likely going to be what you believe. If you are not an outspoken person and you hang around a group of peers that believe something that you don’t, you probably will just believe in what they believe to stay with that group because of peer pressure. I also think that society is a big part of being prejudice. Society shows you things to make you do or believe things that aren’t true. Now a day’s society had changed. I think it has a bigger influence on smaller and younger kids than most teens or adults.
4 Who is at fault or responsible for discrimination? Explain.
I think that we as people are at fault for discrimination. People like to discriminate things that do not need to be discriminated on. Older people are also a big part of discrimination just because of the way that they were raised. If an older person was raised to believe a certain way then I don’t think they will change what they believe. I believe that discrimination is starting to become a bigger problem than it ever has been.
5 Can you cite some personal examples of prejudice and discrimination? This example could be personal or something that you witnessed.
One example is that people were picking on my friend because they assumed that he was gay. The reason they thought this was because he only hung out with girls and hardly had any guy friends. People are very quick to assume things that are not true.
6 You may have heard this phrase - "Nothing like leather". Where did this originate and what does it mean?
This phrase originated from a fable. This phrase means to mock someone who has a very militant attitude towards his own field.

Summary: This lesson has really opened my eyes about the subject of prejudice and discrimination. Not only have I witnessed these but at some point have done these. Not because I’ve meant to, but because that’s the way I was taught. I have had myself judging a stereotype because that’s what my friends and parents have done. Now that I had the chance to look at these topics more in depth, I know that there is no reason to be prejudice or to discriminate on someone. In my opinion, I think that everyone deserves to be given an equal chance.
Research Question: How has prejudice and discrimination affected our world?

Research Analysis:
Discrimination affects our society more than we know. It has an effect on businesses and politics. Businesses that discriminate tend to not be very productive. People that have special talents or abilities do not want to have anything to with the business. Discrimination is the biggest thing that people talk about. People don’t understand that discrimination is happening more and more in this day and time. Discrimination is more than just being racist. Most people discriminate on skin color and religion just as much as they do race and culture.
According to the research that I have found, in most cases discrimination happens to the extreme all around the world. There are many reasons that it’s happening more in the world. The main reason that discrimination is happening is because of how the parents raise their kids. Most parents raise their kids to believe what they believe, so that is all the children know to believe. If the child does not agree with the parents, most likely the children will not speak up and tell their parents what they believe.
My research also states that people deal with discrimination in different ways. It says that some people go into denial about discrimination, which can lead to a bad case of anxiety. When the people are discriminated upon they tend to have blamed their self for it happening. The people who have been discriminated upon are left hurt and confused. Some people often become addicts or alcoholics just to ease the pain of discrimination. They will start being mean to other people or tend to stray away from the public crowd.
Research Summary:
I have to say that agree with the research that I have found. My research tell of a lot of things that most people do not like to talk about because they are afraid that it will hurt someone’s feelings. I believe that every person is entitled to their own opinion, but they to approach the situation in a way that is does not harm or hurt a persons feelings. I believe that every person has the same amount of equal rights. People just do not understand how much discrimination is killing our society.
