Lesson Four we had to talk about segregated proms. We also had to look at a hate map for Georgia. We had to decribe two hate groups that are still in Georgia today. Overall this lesson is to say that everyone is supposed to be equal and there should be no segragation.

Why do some students not feel welcome at their high school proms?
I think that some students don’t feel welcomed at their high school proms because maybe they may feel left out in decorating or helping out with it. At prom they may not have a variety of songs playing during the dance which may can cause students to not to want to come back to the prom. During prom some students may feel left out because they may get looked at funny because of what they look like.
What could school officials do to ensure that the needs of a diverse group of students are met at school proms and other school activities?
I think that they could let all they student that go to prom and want to do school activities vote on what they want. At prom the students could suggest songs to the DJ. During school activities, the officials should make sure that nobody in a club or on a team is being left out or id being picked on just because they are a different race. The people who are over the prom and the activities should make sure that everybody is treated equal.
Would you ever be in favor of a segregated prom? Why or why not?
I would not be in favor of a segregated prom. I would not be in favor because I think that everyone should mingle together. They should be able to go to the same prom. Nobody should not be invited to just because of their skin color.
Regarding the Hate map, select Georgia in the state text box - a list of current hate groups will be provided. By clicking on some of the hate groups, provide a description of at least two (2) different types of hate groups that are still in existence and why they were formed. One hate group that is still in Georgia is the League of the South. The League of the South is a neo-Confederate group that advocates for a second Southern secession and a society dominated by “European Americans.” At the start of this league is said that the southern secession might be needed if the rest of the U.S did not get fixed. Four years after this group was created, they gained 4,000 members. In 2000, this league became officially known as a hate group. The first years that they became a hate group, they became to become powerful. They became so powerful that it stood large as neo-Confederate movement.
Another hate group that is still in Georgia today is the National Socialist Movement. They are one of the largest neo-Nazi group in the United States. This is group specializes in theatrical and provocative protests. They are known for violent anti-Jewish rhetic and its racist views and policy allowing members of other racist groups to join NSM while the people were still in other groups.

How can we help prevent the hate groups from entering in the school systems?

Research Analysis:
In a manual that I found online called, “Preventing Youth Hate Crime: A Manual for schools and Communities”, it states of some hate prevention programs to stop hate in the school systems. One way that it says is that it prevent hate is to provide hate prevention training to all staff members. In this way all the staff would be aware of all the manifestations of hate. Another way is to ensure that all students receive hate prevention training through age-appropriate classroom activities, assemblies, and other school related activities. This is a way to teach children that even subtle forms. A third way that the manual says is the develop partnerships with families, community organizations, and law enforcement agencies. Hate crimes don’t just happen at school, they happen within a community also. If the schools have a partnership with these people, that hate levels should begin to fall because of all the support there is.
In some other research that I found, there have been researcher’s studying the neuroscience of hate. Some researchers found that many hate groups have different morals lie in the different hate groups. They are not positive that this is the main thing behind the white supremacist communities. The researchers have also found that the hate groups create websites and found that they say words that involve the morality and moral judgment than with other websites where people can go on and talk about stuff that they don’t like.
The tools that are needed to help researchers study more efficient didn’t come out until later. Back in the 90’s the researchers didn’t have the proper technology to do these studies. The technology now a days has developed so much that they researchers can now get more in depth into the research that they need to get into. The researches can now study the different emotions that a person has with the brain.
Research Summary:
I found the research that I did was very informative. I didn’t know that there were so many different hate groups in Georgia. I think that we as a community could put a stop to all the hate within the school system and within the communities. There is too much hate going on in this world and I think that it all needs to stop. I did not know that there were researchers out there doing research on the hate that people feel and why the hate groups feel and believe what they believe.
