My friend from the North
My Friend from the North
I used to think Northerners where so different then people from the South. But the one friend that I met was so much like people from the south that I did not know that she was really from the north until she said that she was. I met my new best friend in my education 2120 class at South Georgia state college. We had to go around the room and say where we were from and what our major was. Almost everybody said they was from the south but her. She said that she was from Ohio. I thought that it was cool that she was from the North but was wondering why she came all the way to go to school down here.
Turns out that we had more than one class together. So one day I decided to just ask her a few question about why she was down here so far from her home and did she like it down here. When I asked her why she was down here so far from home she said that she had family down here and that her mom got a job down here. When we started to hang out more, because we had classes together and could work on work for it, she seemed as though she wasn’t even from the north. If she wouldn’t have said that she was from the north, I would have never known.
Some of the things that she does and says is different than what I have always known, but there are somethings that are similar. One thing that she says is different is how she says a soda. She doesn’t refer to the soda drink as soda she says pop. Before I met her I have never met anyone that called it that.
For her to be from the north, to me, she doesn’t seem like someone that is from the north. She does not have the Northern accent like I thought that she would had. Her accent is kind of a mix between the north and the south. Also another question that I asked her was, “How long have you lived down here in Pearson?” She told me that she had been living in Pearson Georgia for three years. At first I didn’t believe her because of her accent because I thought she had lived down in Pearson Georgia for longer than three years.
Another question that I asked her was “How do people in the north dress differently than the people in the south?” Her response was that, “In the winter, we actually have to wear coats and hats and gloves because it actually snows in the north.” I am sure that when she moved down here that it was a big change of seasonal temperatures. Overall people from the north and people from the south don’t really have many differences. We all pretty much do/have the same things. Maybe the biggest difference between the north and the south is the way that we dress because of the temperature difference. I am so glad that I got to interview and get to know my new friend from the north.
Overall I am glad that I got the chance to interview my new friend. I didn’t think that we had so much in common because she was from the north. This was a great experience that I did.
