Lesson 2

In this lesson we had to watch two videos. One was on Sir ken Robinson and the other was on Rita Pierson. Then we had to answer some questions about each of the videos.

Lesson 2 Discussion

Sir Ken Video Questions

* Do you agree with Sir Ken Robinson as he makes the case for a radical shift from standardized schools to personalized learning - creating conditions where kids' natural talents can flourish? Why or why not?

o I agree with Sir Ken Robinson. Students should have a more personalized lesson to show their talents. This gives them a chance to see what job that wanna have and to reach that goal.

* How would YOU, as a teacher, "personalize" the learning in your classroom? Explain.

o How I would personalize the learning would be to ask the students what types of lesson they want to learn about. Then I would try to form a lesson around some of the students answers.

* List and descibe at least TWO (2) points that Sir Ken made in his speech that you agree with and describe why you agree.

o The two points that I agree with are the idea of linearity and conformity. Sir Ken described the idea of linearity as, quote, “that it starts here and you go through a track and if you do everything right, you will end up set for the rest of your life.” Later used an analogy that our lives are expressed on a line with the main goal of going to college, but it’s not ideal for everyone. Conformity is another point that education has been modeled and remodeled reputedly trying to find new results.

Rita Pierson Video Questions

* Why do kid's dropout of school? Are Rita Pierson's reasons accurate?

o Rita Pierson concluded that kid's drop out of school because of either poverty, low attendance, or negative peer influence. I believe that Rita's reasons were correct because I have seen this happen for all three of these.

* What is Rita's point in her TED Talk video? Explain.

o Rita’s point made in her TED talk video is the importance of having a relationship between teacher and students. She says that “every child

deserves a champion, an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be.” Each students deserves a teacher that will encourage them when he or she thinks the students needs encouragement.

* Summary:

o Rita and Ken both had different topics that affected their students and curriculum. Sir Ken said that a radical shift from standard to personalized lessons would help students more. Rita Pierson, on the other hand, talked about student-teacher relationships and why students drop out.
