This lesson was about Cognitive Development.

We also had to listen to a podcast. Then we had to answer some

questions about the pobcast.

Lesson 4 Discussion

What are some basic findings concerning the brain mentioned by Anita?

The nerve cells send out branches that connect with other branches from other cells. The branches never really touch but the gap between them send chemical messages so that the branches can communicate.

What does Anita mean when she says "Use it or Lose it?"

If a person doesn’t use what they have learned, they may end up losing how to use or do it.

Why does Anita mention Taxi drivers in the podcast?

Taxi driver’s brains could be a bit larger than a normal person’s brain. They have to memorize more information than any other person. They have to be able to use their memorization for long periods of time and without this, they couldn’t do their job

According to the podcast, why is it important to learn different methods in solving math problems?

The more that is put into the brain, the better we are to solve problems without having hardly any trouble. There are many different ways to solve a math problem. So with the more ways that you know how to solve the problem, the more your brain has to work. This could make a person smarter.

Explain "Bloom's Taxonomy".

Bloom’s Taxonomy can assist teachers in designing performance tasks. Bloom’s Taxonomy is a system used to distinguish levels of human cognition. It provides some important information for teachers to focus on higher thinking.

Summary:

The podcast was very informative. It was great to listen to. She has some great information for teachers. To me, I liked how she explained how the taxi driver’s brains could be a little bit larger. The article was also very interesting to read.

Research Question:

How can the brain take in so much information?

Research Analysis:

Some people may think that our brain can take almost any information that we put in. But our brain can only take so much information. In the website that I found, it said that if people have too much information putting into the brain, that it makes them feel less happy about the decisions that they make. The website also said that our memory is limited. Our brain store anything that we put in it but it can only focus on a few things at a time. The website said that we can focus better if, we learn things in chunks then learning it all at once.

Research Summary:

The research I found was very informative. It gave some information that I didn’t really know about. It also cleared up a few things that I thought were true. Even though we think that we can remember anything, sometimes, i think, we may need to have a paper copy of the information to. I like doing the research on my question.
