LESSON 3
In this lesson we talk about the school climate and the school culture of the school. We also talked about the whole child in a school system.
-
In your own words, describe "School Climate".
-
-
School climate is the factors that contribute to the tone and attitudes of staff and school students. I think that it is meaning that they way that all the students, parents, and staff act and all the experiences within the school are what makes up the school's climate
-
-
In your own words, describe "School Culture".
-
-
I think that school culture is all of the relationships and everything that goes on within the school so that the school can function correctly.
-
-
Describe the four (4) dimensions of School Climate.
-
-
The 4 dimensions of School Climate are Safety,Relationships, Teaching and Learning, and Institutional Environment. Safety of School Climate is basically what it says:it's the safety involved with the school in order to keep the students safe physically and emotionally. Relationships is basically the positive support that the teachers have for the students. Teaching and Learning is that student teacher relationship and everything needed for positive learning. Institutional Environment basically what is says as well, it’s the physical environment of school.
-
-
The "Whole Child" initiative seems to be interwoven with School Climate. Describe the "Whole Child" approach towards education.
-
-
The Whole Child is a student who receives support from the entire community. The whole child initiative is where an approach is used that is interested in the child’s living environment, the child and where the child attends school(like the community). What they believe is that, “To be a whole child takes a whole education”. I think this means that a child should learn everything that they need to know in order to be successful in their lifetime. The should make sure that they also have to proper education as well. In order for a child to grow, they need good decisions as well as bad ones. A student who has made many mistakes will most likely to make better decisions the next time they make a mistake.
-
-
Regarding the "Trouble School" video for this lesson, would a positive school climate and whole child approach save this school? Describe.
-
-
I think that they would save the school. I believe that the school would really get better if the community where the school is would come together to help the students succeed.
-
-
List and describe some of the positive outcomes associated with a positive school climate and educating the whole child.
-
-
A student who is in a positive school climate may have better grades that a student who is an negative school climate. Students who suffer from behavioral issues may succeed better in a positive school climate rather than a negative school climate.
-
-
What can schools do to develop a positive school climate? Describe.
-
-
One way that schools can develop a positive school climate is to make sure that they have a positive attitude towards the education. Student who see the teachers and staff that do not really care about the education, then the students probably are not going to care either.
-
-
What can YOU do, as a teacher, to help develop a positive school climate? Describe
-
-
What i can do as a teacher to develop a positive school climate is to show my students that getting an education doesn't always have to be boring and not fun. I want my students to realize all the things that it takes to become successful doesn't always have to be hard to learn.
-
-
Regarding the "Which School is Yours?" video for this lesson, have you experienced either one of these schools? Describe your experience.
-
-
I have experienced these schools. It was mainly in elementary school that all the people were more caring and will greet you better. In high school, it didn’t happen that often. I believe that teachers, at the high school level, still need to greet their students everyday. Even at the high school level just greeting a student everyday could possibly change their attitude that day if they have had a bad morning at home.
-
-
Summary:
-
-
I really enjoyed doing this lesson. It has showed me that i really need to take into account the school climate and school culture. I want to make sure that I can be like the teacher in the second part of the Which School is Yours video. I want to greet my students every morning and when they leave. I also want to make sure that i better their vocabulary so that they may could use bigger words in the future.
